Finding the Balance in Submission and Leadership
When you realize that complete opposites actually compliment each other...
As we walk with God as His daughters, we often hear the concept of submission and have had to learn the beauty behind itโwe submit to the Lord first and our husbands next. It is not a weakness to be submissive but rather it is trusting our entire lives in Godโs leadership. But even when God calls us to submit in certain areas, it does not erase the opportunity to lead. This kind of leadership looks like accountability, gentle correction and a willingness to take a step forward when we are commanded to act. Submission and leadership are threads that intertwine to create the fabric of a godly womanโs life. Learning how to sew in harmony with them is our part of growing in Christ.
They may feel like complete opposites at times, but they are beautiful partners when seen through the eyes of faith.
Submission is trusting in Godโs authority and plan. Submitting to our husbands does not mean we are bowing to mere man but rather, we are honoring Godโs design. It cultivates peace in the home, welcomes respect, and allows us to reflect Christโs church.
Leadership is when we follow through with what God has assigned to us in our homes, our children, our words, and our actions. It shows up when we take accountability and confess and correct our sins. But it also appears when we encourage prayer with our families or initiate good, God-honoring changes around us.
This is the beautiful part about all this: Submission does not silence leadership and leadership does not overshadow submission. They weave together into a life that honors and glorifies God. Here are some examples that you and I can practice this week to introduce this concept into our lives:
You can practice submission by asking your husband how you can support him this week in any aspect. Write it down and follow throughโeven the small things count.
You can practice leadership by choosing one area of your life that needs some correcting such as finances, homemaking habits, or even time with God. Do not overdo it this week and overwhelm yourself. Make it something simple and act upon it.
So, have you joined Book Club yet? Just a little reminder: we only started recently, so youโve still got plenty of time to jump in and catch up! We meet on Zoom every other week all quarter long, and right now weโre reading Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. Canโt wait to see you there, sis!

Letโs take a moment hereโฆ
submission and leadership are not meant to be competing forces within our lives. In fact, they complement one another. When you lead, you act faithfully. When you submit, you trust. Learning to rest in Godโs embrace and act when He calls will bring peace in our homes and strength from within. I pray that this week you feel security in godly submission and courage for when He commands you to lead.
With much love,
