This is often a recurring feeling: you're just about to sit down to eat and someone in your home needs help. Maybe you're cooking dinner and the doorbell rings. Plans change. The day suddenly isn't how you expected it to look like. Honestly, it can get a bit frustrating. But what if we took the time to see these interruptions as invitations? Invitations from God that encourage us to step into His agenda instead of our own. In homemaking, we are not just keeping a schedule of all things; we are keeping a heart that is open to all people, needs, and especially the Holy Spirit. We keep and hold the space for the unexpected.
Think about Jesus and His miracles. Often, they were pauses in His journey that we didn't expect to read but they were absolutely necessary. The woman who touched His garment as he was walking elsewhere. Even the man who was lowered from the roof while He was teaching.
When we guard our time so tightly, we miss the chance to see God at work. The interruptions that we face such as a child spilling his milk, a neighbor stopping by or a call from a family memberโthey might be God weaving His story into ours. These are absolutely necessary to us.
They aren't obstacles but rather, opportunities!
The interruptions in our schedules may very well be the moments of holy interventions. Moments that prepare the heart.
Leave Margin: Donโt schedule your day so tightly that thereโs no room for a conversation, a walk with a neighbor, or helping a child with something unexpected.
Pause Before Reacting: When interrupted, take a breath and pray, โLord, is this from You?โ
Welcome the Person, Not Just the Plan: Shift your focus from finishing the task to serving the soul in front of you.
Keep an โInterruption Basketโ: A small basket with tea bags, notecards, or small treats so you can quickly bless whoever steps into your day.

Interruptions are part of the design. The Lord uses them to strengthen our patience, weaken our pride, and spill with compassion. The next time your plans are interrupted, whisper this for me: โThank you, Lord.โ
Step into the moment. You may be unaware of the lives you might change, including yours.
